My Fortune Cookie

The best martial arts teacher in the world can not make you a good martial artist. Only you, the practitioner, can do that.
The knowledge, as in "knowing," what to do --is not, alone, what makes one a great anything.
Doing, practicing, re-visiting, re-embracing, polishing, participating, teaching, learning and re-learning, leading, following, and looking deeply at all the elements, each piece of the whole --and the whole made up of each piece --is what turns knowing into being.
And finally, I must remind myself not to make the mistake that, in the end, any of this, this training, quest, and journey, is about me. I am not a separate self, but a part of something much larger --it is not my own development and gain or skill that ultimately matters, it is what I contribute to those around me.
