With a blend of determination, confidence and years of intense training, Nassim Varasteh's achievements in Karate have captured the attention of competitors, judges and even the Canadian Prime Minister. Nassim began her karate training at the age of six under the instruction of her father, Grand Master Farhad Varasteh. Shinan Varasteh, who holds a ninth degree black belt, is the founder of Kan-Zen-Ryu and introduced the sport of karate to Iran. Working out of his Toronto, Ontario-based dojo, he has trained Nassim from a beginner to her current rank of second degree black belt.
Since she began competing at the age of 14, Nassim has won nine consecutive provincial Karate championships, eight Canadian National Championships and was also a Gold Medallist at the Pan-American Karate championships as a junior, and again as a senior athlete in 2003. In addition, she ranked in the top eight while competing in her first World Karate Federation Championship and is currently captain of the Women's Provincial team, a position she has held for three years. Her extensive accomplishments in the sport have been praised in several personal letters from Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien.
Along with following a strict training schedule and fitness regiment, Nassim is also currently pursuing a degree in business from York University. In the future, she plans to continue her tradition of dedication and hard work to not only achieve her goals in the sport, but to surpass them.
